For major cost-saving and green credentials, High-capacity off-line UPS systems are now available, these products typically consume around 10% less power than conventional on-line UPS, and can switch from mains power to the system’s batteries in less than 4 milliseconds (this causes no disruption for modern IT equipment loads).

Compared to an equivalent on-line double conversion UPS system these UPS systems can save around £50,000 per annum per MWatts of installed power in energy efficiency. This equates to around 600 tonnes of reduced CO2 emissions per annum for one MWatts of power.
